This refined classic takes luxury to new heights. The Australian Opal and Pearl necklace strikes me as something the upper echelon might have worn on the Titanic (you know, before it became a tragedy!). This elegant necklace features 14K gold-filled accents and clasp and is 21 inches long making this well suited for layering with other pieces! Note that the Australian Opals are the smooth, glossy oval pieces and the pearls are faceted and offer a stunning, subdued sparkle.
Stone Properties: Opal derives its name from the Latin word "opalus" and the Sanskrit word "upala" which translates to "precious stone. Roman civilization linked Opals with good luck and hope. Pearls symbolize wisdom and are valued for their calming effects and serenity. On the flip side, Pearls can help strengthen valuable relationships and convey safety. Lastly, Pearls are also symbolic of purity, integrity, and loyalty. Perhaps this is why Pearls are such a popular gift between romantic partners.
Stone Hardness: Opal has a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale due to its hydrated silica make-up. Note that sometimes the water in the Opal can evaporate, creating natural cracks in the stone. Sometimes, that adds to it's stunning beauty, but these particular Opals are hand-picked for a smooth and glossy finish by me! Pearls are delicate and as such are ranked at a 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Note that the scale for Mohs hardness ranks stone hardness from 1-10 with 10 being the hardest and 1 being the softest.
